The project involved the extension and renovation of an existing Travel & Food Plaza in WI, USA. The objective was to enhance the functionality, aesthetics and efficiency of the plaza by introducing additional amenities and space; and upgrading the existing infrastructure.
The project comprised the following key buildings and features:
Concept Design Documents
Design Development Drawings
Construction Documentation set
BIM Archicad Modelling
3D Visualizations
The design and documentation process was based on: • Old scans and reference documents. • Hand-drawn sketches and markups. • Written instructions and guidelines from the client.
QeCAD played a pivotal role in delivering a timely and comprehensive presentation based on Client’s Concept Design, covering:
→ Concept Design Development: Translating initial ideas into Design Documents.
→ Design Development Drawings: Preparing Approval-ready Drawings.
→ Construction Documentation: Creating a detailed Construction Documentation set.
1) Site Upgrades:
→ Designed and integrated a new Trash Enclosure, additional Truck Parking, and a Storage Building.
→ Extended and optimized the Drainage Structure for better stormwater management
2) Architectural Enhancements:
→ Upgraded the Entrance Clock Tower by increasing its height and incorporating a prominent brand logo for improved visibility.
3) Visualization Support by QeCAD:
→ Developed multiple design option visuals to help the client compare the alternatives and visualize the enhancements before execution.
1) Working with Limited and Aged Inputs
→ Challenge: The initial project inputs included old scans, hand-drawn sketches, and written markups, making it challenging to extract precise measurements and details.
→ Solution: Our team carefully digitized and refined the data, cross-referencing it with site conditions and client feedback to ensure accuracy.
2) Maintaining Design Continuity with Existing Structures in Visualization
→ Challenge: The extension needed to seamlessly integrate with the existing plaza while complying with structural and aesthetic requirements.
→ Solution: The Client Architect conducted an in-depth study of the existing architecture and materials to develop a cohesive design that blends old and new elements. QeCAD provided top-notch visuals and design options, as requested by the client, ensuring that the materials of the existing structure were harmoniously matched with the proposed ones, creating balanced tones throughout.
3) Adhering to Regulatory Compliance and Approvals
→ Challenge: Ensuring that the extended structures and new amenities met local building codes and received timely approvals.
→ Solution: In collaboration with our Client Architect and leveraging his inputs, we developed approval-ready Design Development Drawings that meticulously addressed all compliance aspects. This thorough approach significantly streamlined the approval process.
Final Outcome:
By employing a meticulously structured assistance approach, QeCAD adeptly delivered the ‘Travel & Food Plaza’s Design Documentation from the conceptual phase through to construction. This comprehensive delivery met the Client Architect’s requirements while significantly enhancing operational efficiency through timely, query-minimized deliveries. Throughout this project, QeCAD has demonstrated its capability to function as an integral extension of the client’s team.
